TLA Friday, June 12th Morning Meeting

Technology Leaders Association (TLA) was established in 2002 to help senior level IT executives develop and manage their careers. As part of this effort, we hold monthly meetings to network, share ideas, and learn from featured guest speakers in the strategy, information technology, and career management fields.

Our speaker for June is Marty Gilbert, Founder/CEO of NorthShore Executive Networking Group (NSENG).  He will present, “8 WAYS TO SHORTEN YOUR JOB SEARCH”.

For reservations – please reply to with your name and telephone number no later than noon on Thursday, June 11th with the first 20 reservations accepted for Zoom roundtable networking. Beyond 20 reservations, due to time constraints, you are welcome to attend both the roundtable and speaker presentations as a viewer only.

Once you have reserved, the night before the meeting, you will be sent the Zoom link for the meeting. Please do not share or publish this link.

We have allowed for 60 minutes for facilitated Zoom roundtable networking. Depending upon the size of the group, each participant will receive up to 3 minutes to give their pitch/overview and what we can do to help (such as target contacts or job leads).

If you have a contact, advice, or lead for a roundtable presenter, please use the Zoom chat feature to supply this information. This will allow the roundtable presenter to follow up afterwards with you in more detail. Or you are encouraged to contact the Zoom roundtable presenter directly using the attendee list which will be sent out to all meeting attendees afterwards.

Presentation Overview

It’s a fact that over 90% of a successful job search requires your ability to market yourself whether through networking, resumes, LinkedIn profiles, cover letters, social media and more. Far too many job seekers spend an inordinate amount of their time answering online ads which means their odds of getting an interview are about 200 to 1. That’s a very passive approach that doesn’t effectively create unique differentiation or sufficient visibility for the candidate. During this instructional session, Marty Gilbert, CEO and founder of Chicago’s largest job search networking group (, will share some advice on proactive actions to take that have worked for many of the 1,500 professionals he’s help to land their next job.

Structured Networking
Structured networking is a technique used at most major executive transition groups. It is meant to be a powerful method of generating ideas that might help each of our searches. During this process, we will quickly brainstorm potential job lead ideas, gain networking contacts at desired companies, and generate advice from the members by sharing our backgrounds as well as our career objectives. It is designed to generate ideas, but given the time constraints, not get into immediate detailed discussions. You should plan on following up with anybody who may have had an interesting idea or a good contact.

Marty Gilbert is the Founder and CEO of the NorthShore Executive Networking Group (NSENG) ( NSENG is the largest and fastest growing job search networking group in the Chicago area. The organization is comprised of over 6,400 members, 7 of which are landing a new job each week, even during the Coronavirus pandemic. Marty brings a wealth of job search coaching experience for middle and senior level professionals wanting to move onto their next career opportunity. Over the past 10 years his job search networking meetings, coaching efforts, webinars, and workshops have been instrumental in helping individuals to land new career opportunities. Additionally, Marty’s “What the Hell Approach to Job Search™” has gained significant notoriety as a methodology that helps professionals in a career transition to stand out from a sea of qualified candidates.

Marty’s background also includes an extensive array of marketing, sales, and general management roles across a broad range of industries. Marty spent 18 years with Motorola Inc, where he helped launch several “industry first” wireless products along with being the General Manager for four business units. He also held the role of Chief Operating Officer for STATS Inc, the nation’s leading sports data and analytics company that delivers real-time content to major TV, fantasy sports games and professional sports teams. STATS Inc was also the driving force behind the book and movie, Moneyball, which starred Brad Pitt. Marty’s career is highlighted by over 25 years of international experience which included a position working in Tokyo for Dentsu Inc., the world’s largest advertising agency, where his award-winning writing regularly appeared in Time, Newsweek, Business Week, and Fortune magazines.
